Wow i am amazed at what just happened to us let me tell the story.
My wife owns a Toyota Prius Hybrid as many of you will know already as i have written about it here before. Of course these are much maligned vehicles hated by the likes of the popular press and of course the ever vocal Jeremy Clarkson.
Clarksons hatred in fact was a factor in my buying this car as i reasoned he only likes things that are fast, expensive, totally impractical, unreliable, uncomfortable and noisy!!
Being his polar opposite i figured that as he hated it i would probably like it, it would be good value for money and reliable.
And so it has proven to be really aside from a flat battery during the winter which was ever so difficult to diagnose and even harder to sort out it has been absolutely brilliant.(i feel my street credibility dropping here) so i must emphasize again it's my wifes car my own car is a TT but i have to say in the comfort stakes, the running cost stakes, the reliability stakes the Prius wins and it is always the car we hop in to pop to town.
I have gone right off topic again now and started rambling so back to the point of this post.
Our Prius is now around six years old and as i say has given no trouble at all. We were surprised then that in the post we received a letter from Toyota saying that they have identified a possible problem with a " pump in the hybrid system" and they would like to have the car (six years old) back and replace this pump free of charge!!!
We phoned to get a bit more information and they said that although there have been no records of this pump actually having failed they would like to replace them anyway as there was a potential problem that could theoretically occur, it wasn't compulsory, it wasn't dangerous, it was up to us but they would like to change the pump.
So we took the car in. The Toyota garage was superb they gave us a lift free of charge into the local town and offfered to come and pick us up again when the job was done, in all it was going to take about 2 hours.
2 hrs later the garage was on the phone offering to come and pick us up again. When we got to the garage they took us to our car which they had valeted and cleaned to an inch of its life, they gave us a free car care kit which contains polish, glass cleaner, chamois, sponge, wheel cleaner, dash cleaner, tyre black all in a nice looking zip up case again this was free of charge!!!!!
They then presented us with a letter from Toyota apologizing profusely for the inconvenience that the whole experience had put us through and they hoped it hadn't put us out too much having to bring in the car!!!
All of this was done completely free of charge and on a car that is six years old. I am frankly amazed at the service from them and can't imagine any other manufacturer going to such lengths to keep customers happy.
Toyota's brand has taken a hammering recently in the press, so i thought some may be interested to hear some praise for their efforts instead.
