You need to do two things.

1. Upload a small picture to a website (Flickr is good for this) and copy the URL, this will be something like farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4868630959_0f0ff9d054_t.jpg If you're using flickr grab the thumbnail size as this is spot on for putting on here.

2. Amend your profile. Click profile at the top of the page, then click on Modify Profile. Scroll down to where it says Avatar and then enter the URL of your picture from step 1.

That's all there is to it

Hi Nige

If you have a facebook account with photos in in you right click on the pictures and left click copy URL you can then paste the URL into your avatar address as in instruction 2 from Duncan above.
